What is YLOD?

YLOD or Yellow Light of Death is the most feared LED signal from the PlayStation 3. The solid yellow light beneath the on-off button means that there is a hardware problem with the console’s motherboard. In contrast, a red blinking light means that there is a problem with your hard drive. Motherboard failure is more feared, since the board holds the processor and graphic cards of the PS3. PS3 with the yellow light of death

The Yellow Light of Death (YLOD) indicates that there may be problems with the console motherboard. If you see it for the first time, don’t panic. The damage may not be permanent. Overheating of the console can cause the solders to loosen, resulting in broken or faulty connections in the board. The best first aid is to give your console a rest. Wait for twenty minutes to one hour before restarting your PS3.

Despite Sony’s best efforts to curb the yellow light problem with their new PS3 Slim console we are now receiving many reports of this fault even with the new slim consoles. Gamers can’t believe their luck!

Although the problem seems to be much less of an issue when compared to the failure rate of the older PS3 consoles I’m sure we are going to see quite a few of these slim consoles with the yellow light fault due to the sheer numbers of consoles sold at the new lower price point and better spec (bigger hard drive).
